Children's prayers that come from their own hearts are the sweetest prayers. They range from, "God bless mommy and daddy", to "Please make our birdie all better so she can fly again", to "Make everyone happy in the whole wide world!".

Allow children to have the opportunity to pray. Children can pray before bed or before eating. They can pray at the same times that you pray. They can pray whenever they want. Let them know that when they pray they are talking to God and the angels and spiritual beings of light who love them and listen to them.

Natural, "organic" children's prayers are precious in that they are creating the prayers all by themselves. They are speaking directly to God, expressing their love, requests and gratitude in their own unique ways.

Those few minutes before sleeping or eating are great opportunities to allow your child to pray. Be a role model and show how you can be creative and heartfelt in your prayers. Take turns saying prayers and you will find bedtimes and mealtimes uplifting and meaningful.

Try to keep children's prayers from becoming rote and just words. Show your children creative ways to pray for their family, neighborhood, events in the news, the hungry and poor:

*Get pictures from the web of big news events when appropriate.

*Have a picture board of family members and friends who you want to keep in your prayers.

*Engage your children into making posters of events, places and people that they want to pray for.

*Create prayer books on sights such as Lulu that are beautifully illustrated and bound professionally or create homemade prayer books using spiral notebook paper and crayons.

The sky is the limit for children's prayers as long as it is meaningful to assist your child in their connection to God.

Children's prayers don't have to be all "organic" they can be scripted and they can be traditional prayers. They can be prayers that you say in your family or in your church. You can teach your child traditional prayers line by line and explaining in your own words what the prayer means and what the prayer means to you personally.
