How do you discriminate between a false master and true master?

Personally I haven’t met a false master per say however I have come across false teachings. During the late 70’s and early 80’s I was looking for answers to many questions I had regarding things that had or were happening to me. I checked out the spiritual and psychic societies in town. I didn’t stay long with these as I knew this was not what I was looking for. However, while checking these groups out I did take a workshop where we meditated on color and during that class I was shown that I had arrived at the bottom of the steps to the church/organization that I was looking for. I intuitively knew that it was CUT which I had come in contact with shortly before. However, my husband was not ready to embrace the teachings at that time so I just read some books on the teachings. A couple of years later I was living in Edmonton and saw a poster advertising a weekend event with the Ascended Masters and went to it and I knew this was what I had been looking for and whether my husband liked it or not I was looking more closely into these teachings. Soon my husband joined the meetings as well. I find that I have an intuitive ability to distinguish between true and false teachings.
