Raphael, This star-gazing is great stuff! I'm starting with Polaris and working my way thru the sky, but slowly...
I could not yet find Popular Astronomy retail in my area. Do you know of an on-line source with clear Night Sky Winter Maps for Polaris and others? Thanks, Julie

    Answer to my own question:

"STELLARIUM" is a wonderful link for Sky Gazers :

    http://www.stellarium.org/

"Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope. It is being used in planetarium projectors. Just set your coordinates and go."

You can see the sky from Kashmir, Angola or the U.S...It is simple, user-friendly with downloads for both Windows and Mac. Enjoy.

Julie I love your motivation. The sky,day or night here in Missoula,MT. has been grey and heavy. We are 2000ft below Bozeman and Livingston. So I find solace on the web. Yes I found Solarium and have gasped at some of the wonderful cosmic showings.

Constance: Thank you for your kindness. So glad you're enjoying it. And I admire your constancy--you were aptly named! Yes, STELLARIUM is not only a first-rate learning tool, it is so much fun to "fly" around the globe by a simple press of the key.

Since all true learning comes from within, I am highly motivated to personal exploration, the simple math being: the more input equals more output. Sounds like a familiar song: "And in the end the love you make is equal to the love you take". Thanks ever, Julie
