Spiritual Parenting Made Easy!

Start the Year Out Right!

Start the Year Out Right!

I’ve talked about this a few years ago, but I think it’s on all of our minds at this time of year. Another year over. What is in store for this New Year? How can I do better? It’s a great time to self-assess.

While on the calendar, the New Year is simply another date, we have received in the past a spiritual teaching on the New Year. This comes from a master no longer in this realm, Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov. Omraam talked about how people party and sit around and wish for the new year to be better, but they do not sow what they wish to reap, they do not work for it.

Omraam also brought up the point that we be conscious to make this new cycle a clean cycle. While it is “new,” it is also a cycle we have lived many years and many lifetimes before. Therefore, it is beneficial to us to determine and set in mind, heart and will, just what we desire – heaven on Earth, the will of God – and so on. Omraam gives us a unique perspective:

…in fact you should know that the first day of the year determines the first month, the second day – the second month, the third day – the third month and so on. So you must try to live, think, feel and behave as well as possible, at least during the first twelve days, so as to ensure an intelligent, luminous start to the year and thus influence and determine it favorably.

Some of you may say….”I did my best during the first twelve days, but the rest of the year wasn’t at all good!” That is because you allowed it to be influenced by the old things of the past. You have to clean, sweep, wash and purify everything in you. But no one does it. No one even thinks of doing it. Of course, it is impossible to clean everything all in one day; the weight of the past still influences us and the New Year will always be mingled with the old. You would have to be a divinity to improve things one hundred percent. To improve the situation by twenty, thirty or fifty percent would already be quite an achievement for a disciple!

So, life is about continuous improvement, but we can surely work on these next 12 days (and beyond) and determine, plan and decide that, by God’s grace, we will make this New Year a good one for us and our family! By thinking good thoughts, accepting our divine role as parents, loving our kids with our whole heart and showering them with good and noble ideas and compliments on their divine nature, we will be making spiritual progress, and what is more important in life than that?
