NOTE: I made a few minor changes and added a note at the bottom. (morning, 9/18/2010)

The Master asked: "What is humor?"
    This is my offering.
Hmm... Posted on Jovial's day (in PDT, anyway)

    ..................Humor..................

O Humor, precious quality that frees
    By patterns unexpected recognized
Mankind from base life to effect release
Of Joy explosions, laughter, highly prized.

Immortal echoes stirred by Humor's chime
Yield glimpses of supernal bliss below,
Uplift our souls before appointed time
To taste of Joy and Freedom we're to know.

What? Humor poem with no jest?! But then
So solemn marches sonnet's stately mode
To 'temp a quip would shatter poet's pen.
Alas! No "Why'd the adept cross the road..."

Though limerick is my first choice in rhyme
Iamb, O That Iamb, is e'er sublime.

    ...............Richard Lorenz................

    PS (Post Sonnet)

I apologize for being off topic. I focused on "What is humor" rather than Saint Germain's question "What is the importance of humor on the Path?". For this I apologize profusely. Please ignore this blunder and see my other offering.

Sweet lamb, O bard, of twinkly spark'ling eyes,
Methinks the day that Jovial made is thine.
Hear now the sound of welcome laughter's prize--
It's yours, you won! Now stand and bow and shine!

    Jovial inspires Bardic-I ambic-ness!

Being the scientist that you are Richard, we expected no less than the perfect meter-ificness. Move over what's her name, you are a 10. Fantastic.

I'm sure your limericks are great, but sonnets gets the adepts to the other side of samsara quicker, methinks (is that the answer to your question?)

Why did the adept cross the road? Why, to get to the Path of Initiation, of course! The following are my thoughts on the question, "What is the importance of humor on the Path?"

I see life on this planet as a sort of video game. It is a game, a schoolroom, and if we die we keep coming back again and we play again and we keep playing until we master the game and then we can go on to the next level. It is merely a game, a comedy (sometimes a tragedy), and none of it is real. When we can laugh at the situations that occur in this video game called life, then we are declaring the illusion and not allowing ourselves to get caught up in it. Laughter is saying, "This is not real, this is only a game, a lesson. I realize the fun and joy of this game because I am learning with each new level I reach." So since Richard mentioned his love for limericks, I am going to submit a limerick, not a sonnet, however I do have the sun in my bonnet.

There was an old devil named Satan
Who thought he was hot, but was fakin'
He was loosed on the earth,
    For all he was worth,
But wound up in the lake that was bakin'!

THANK YOU, JOYCE, FOR YOUR GREAT VIDEO GAME PRESENTATION AND THE LIMERICK! YOU MADE MY DAY!

There was a young woman named Joyce
Who has great cause to rejoice
    She discovered her gift
And it gave me a lift
I'm glad she made such a good choice!
