These people have made and lived on these floating islands for many hundreds of years. I was standing in a "lookout post" on the family island we visited when I took this picture.

The main two problems with this strategy:

1. Babies fall off the edge
2. They drink the slightly salty water which makes them retain water--makes for wide bodies and gout in later life
