Some people think that The Gospel of Mary Magdalene was part of the Nag Hammadi Texts - however, it was first discovered in 1896, nearly half a century before they were unearthed, by a German collector in an antiquities market in Cairo, Egypt. It is interesting to note that these important writings did not appear in English until 1955! It makes one wonder who didn't want these truths to be made public?

Though there are numerous pages missing, In her gospel, Mary Magdalene encourages and instructs the disciples (as we learned in MU 1404 last week) not to become disheartened or doubtful, but to recall Jesus' teachings and how he he prepared them "to become fully human." Cynthia Bourgeault,an Episcopal Priest, in her wonderful book "The Meaning of Mary Magdalene : Discovering the woman at the heart of Christianity," explains this mystical teaching and how the realization of this concept is "an integration of the opposites within oneself - specifically bringing together the male and female principles within the individual human psyche..."

She goes on the say that "when this happens, the world does not pass away, but one is able to live in it as master, re-creating its external forms ("making one image supercede another") out of the infinite generativity of the One.

Cynthia describes beautifully how Mary Magdalene had indeed earned the right to be Jesus' foremost disciple, as she herself manifested this state of being "fully human" and yet able to maintain continual attunement with Jesus when he was out of his body (possibly during the 3 days when he descended into hell). Her mastery also allowed the spirit to flow through her being and emanate graces to help shift the other disciples emotional states and turn their hearts toward the good."

This is a well-researched and masterfully written book, which I felt the need to share with all those in MU 1404 and others who want to know and understand more about Beloved Magda and all that she can teach us, as we desire and attempt to become "fully human."

    Blessings of the Divine Feminine,

Thanks Cheryl, you are absolutely right. The gospel of Mary Magdalene was discovered in the 1890s in an antiques shop in London where it had arrived from parts unknown and it wasn't publicized for many years. The same holds true for other writings and artwork depicting Mary Magdalene throughout the footprint of the early Roman Church. I think it is very interesting that such an avalanche of information has come out since Magda ascended in the late 20th century. As we shall see this week in the class, the Roman Church went out of its way to wipe out every vestige of the early Jesus Christianity and Gnostic teachings on the role of women in the church and especially any mention or depiction of Mary Magdalene. I will endeavor to explain why and provide quotes and documentation from early Church authorities on the subject. What an amazing fraud was perpetrated on the historical record of Mary Magdalene and women throughout the ages by the actions of those whose goal was earthly power and not truth, light, and love for all humanity that was Jesus' true message!

    Dear Steve,

Thank you so much for compiling all documentary material you were using last week.
I have printend it on paper so I can read it more easily whenever I like.
Besides my appreciation for the tremendous work you have done, I can also recognise myself in it.
I am Anton Venselaar from Holland and I am glad to participate.
From early childhood I feel familiar with the energetic flowfield within all life and have an inner knowledge that in God and His creation all life is polair in appearance.
I am raised as a catolic, but I always felt that the feminine polarity was lacking.
It is by and through your compilation that all fell into place: my lifelong interest in Mary Magdalene, the Essenes, Twinflames, polarity in nature and in elemental life.
The many references in your work proof to be very valuable and opens new routes for self-tuition and contemplation.

    Once again, I am gratefull.

    Thank you Anton!

I have often wondered what would be the one message that could strike a chord in humanity to bring a better balance in this area and a greater appreciation for who Jesus and Mary Magdalene really were. I am very grateful for your words of encouragement and your presence in the class. I think we have only touched the garment of what could be told about these two great souls.

    God bless,

    Steve
