    WEEK 1 DISCUSSION QUESTIONS (OCTOBER 14, 2012)

HOW DO THE SOUNDS OF NATURE AND BIRDSONGS COMPARE AND RELATE TO THE INDIAN MUSIC?

CAN YOU DESCRIBE ANY BODILY FEELINGS OR SENSATIONS THAT YOU EXPERIENCE WHEN YOU LISTEN TO THEM?

It appears as if the Indian singers were mimicking the birds singing. It was quite interesting to hear similar reflections. The pauses were very similar, the length that the notes were held, amazing.
I love Indian music, now I have a better understanding as to why. It connects you into nature, what a joy!

The sounds are clear and sharp. When you hear the birds singing in nature and when you compare it to the indian music, it gives you a feeling of happiness and freedom.

When I listen to the Indian music I hear undulating wavelike sounds and rhythms that are polyrhythmic and syncopated, much like sounds in nature, including the bird songs. The music enters into me and vibrates throughout my chakras in a similar way that happens with other nature sounds such as the wind, flowing water, horses running, bird wings flapping, a camel walking on the sand, the tide on the seashore, animal cries in the jungle. As I listen to the music I feel my being becoming one with the spirit of all natural things. I feel the sensation of my body vibrating in harmony with the music.

If I close my eyes while listening to the Indian music, I can see certain birds - especially the Loon, making their cries and calls - as if in reply to their creator. Re: the "bird music recording", this reminds me of sounds from American Indians. At this point I feel mixed emotions.....I think I may have been an American Indian at one time as I feel sort of homesick when I hear these happy tweets; sort of nostalgic.
