I've listened to David's latest talks on youth and I was thinking one issue that affects the youth (and everyone, of course) is music. I personally believe this is really important. I came across a teaching from the previous organization and it referred to the demise of previous civilizations precisely due to rhythm.

I think teachings/talks/topics etc would be good especially in today's world. I know if I hadn't known the teachings I wouldn't have made the effort to seek out such pure music and could have easily let myself become a lot more worldly because of it.

I agree, Serena! And I have a book suggestion if we had a class on music. It's called Your Body Doesn't Lie, by Dr. John Diamond. Its an older book about Behavioral Kinesiology. Dr. Diamond says that BK has proven that the rock beat is weakening and creates "switching":

"symmetry between the two cerebral hemispheres is lost, introducing subtle perceptual difficulties and a host of other early manifestation of stress. The entire body is thrown into a state of alarm. The perceptual changes that occur may well manifest themselves in children as decreased performance in school, hyperactivity, and restlessness' in adults, as decreased work output, increased errors, general inefficiency, ... in short, the loss of energy for no apparent reason. This has been observed clinically for hundreds of times. In my practice I have found that the academic records of many school children improve considerably after they stop listening to rock music while studying."

He goes on to discuss how the rock beat may be addictive. The author is an MD. It's rare to see a true look at rock music like this!
I think it would be a useful topic for all of us!

Thanks Ann. I also have a book on music...I think it shows how plants exposed to rock music grew weakened while the classical one grew strong - and towards the speaker, if my memory serves me correctly. I agree about addicting. I don't even listen to it - I avoid it everywhere I can...but I can feel the 'pull' of it when I'm out at a store and exposed to it. A whole course could be done on music...

Thanks! We've had at least three Meru University courses on music and during at least two of these we've discussed this subject... AND a whole lot more! These courses were very inspiring and brought out a lot of great information and wisdom about the positive effects of inspired music. Although we can choose to temporarily focus on the ills of the rock beat, let's also concurrently recommend music that has beneficial, healing qualities. This is the type of music we play during our Hearts Center services and events and that we sell through our online store. Guess what, we had one used copy of this book in our physical store and I've just asked it to be set aside for me to read! Copies can be purchased online through amazon.com for 1 penny plus shipping! Maybe I'll talk about this subject more soon! Thanks for the recommendation, Serena!
