Kuan Yin known as the Mother of Mercy in the East, has been worshipped by Buddhists for thousands of years. She is the greatest of Bodhisattvas and embodies the totality of compassion for humanity. She removes obstacles, erases past offenses, dispenses mercy, healing and spiritual graces, while always meeting the true inner needs of the soul.

"Hearer of Sounds"

Her shortened Chinese name,  Kuan Yin, means “Hearer of Sounds.” Her full name, Kuan Shih Yin,  means “Hearer of the World’s Sounds.” According to Eastern tradition, when Kuan Yin was about to enter heaven, as she stood on the very threshold, she could hear the cries of humanity. She did not enter but returned to help all who suffer in the earth plane. The term “Hearer of Sounds" can also be translated as “perceiver” or “regarder” of the world’s sounds. She is known in much of Asia as a divine emanation that answers the prayers of those who faithfully call upon her name.

Bodhisattva of Compassion

One of her many titles is Bodhisattva of Compassion. Bodhisattva is a Sanskrit word—bodhi meaning "enlightenment"  and sattva translated as "reality" or "existence." A bodhisattva is an enlightened being who has vowed to forgo higher realms and full liberation in order to assist those still struggling in the physical world. A bodhisattva cultivates virtue and pursues his/her spiritual career while on a path of self-sacrifice for the welfare of others and gives compassionate, loving service to humanity and to all sentient life. A bodhisattva (P’u Sa in Chinese) can be a person still in embodiment or a celestial being like Kuan Yin. At this highest transcendent level, the title is mahasattva.

Kuan Yin Mercy Prayer

Kuan Yin is a cross-cultural, nondenominational figure revered by many spiritual and religious traditions around the world. She serves the aspirants of all spiritual heritages and paths. Those who espouse a concept of an impersonal, formless divinity see her as an expression of the essence of compassion, or as a symbol of it. Others who acknowledge a personal Godhead view her as a divine embodiment of this virtue. Some view her as both the impersonal and personal manifestations of divine compassion, with no contradiction. She nurtures the growth of this quality in us through our devotions and our interpersonal relationships with others.

Messages from Kuan Yin

Kuan Yin      March 19, 2005

Beloved Kuan Yin
David Christopher Lewis
March 19, 2005 8:33 - 9:01 am
Livingston, Montana

Children of the One,
In the stillness of an ancient temple hid away in the fastnesses of the Himalayan heights, there is a focus of the Ancient of Days. The devotion of those who have kept the flame on behalf of Sanat Kumara and all the Buddhas in this physical retreat of the Brotherhood wafts as a gentle wind that is gradually spread across the entire world. It is this holiness and sense of peace that I would bring and speak of with you this day.
I AM Kuan Yin, Goddess of Mercy. Those who know me know that the flame of mercy is the gift I bear to each lifestream on earth. This gift comes in many guises, and so you may not always know that it is I peeking behind the person that comes to assist you or to goad you higher. Yet, the flame of compassion and mercy is the shortest path to union with God, for by forgiving all and showing that tender care for life, you become a part of the mission of mercy and the ship of mercy upon which Sanat Kumara did set his great sail many eons ago.
Those who take the bodhisattva vow with me understand that time and space are not the factors which determine the intensity of our determination to save all sentient life. When you dwell in the bliss of maintaining that poise of peace and of mercy's flame, seeing each soul as divine and determining just what little oil of truth must be poured upon that one to raise him higher, you will not miscalculate your need to surrender to this path nor to the rigors of dwelling amidst the darkness of this planet.
Those who do not avoid getting dirty in the process of aiding souls are the ones who have the greatest reward when they see one or more souls rising out of the ignominy of ignorance, beloved. And those who teach and do help in setting the course of many lifestreams on a path of hope and vision do reap the joy of knowing that God has truly worked a work of mercy through them, day by day.
So, although many of you have a propensity to desire to maintain your state of bliss in the heights of your Western Shambhala, we do hail many of you to come down to the plains of the great cities and enter into the very real path of saving souls caught in the miasma of de-evolution through all of the temptations of this world and the astral sea of unknowing, of ignorance of the God-flame within.
Beloved ones, I do not hesitate to spell out my plan for you, for it is simply this: many more servitors of light must take up this path of serving in practical ways to bring our message of mercy to souls in need. When you surrender a certain comfortability and get into the nitty-gritty world where the rubber meets the road of conflict and the need for soul resolution, your attainment is truly tried in the fires of the practical application of your real spirituality. And so, although you may think that you have fully become one with the One, walking the bodhisattva path will test your mettle to see if it is fully fired in the love fires of that surrender and sacrifice that will truly make it a permanent garment of mercy on our behalf.
Who will become real bodhisattvas after studying how your Saint Germain and your Lanello and your Morya have walked this path? Who will honor all that they have sacrificed by conducting themselves in like manner through this ruby path of giving until the last drop of the essence of who they are is shed and thereby they become a golden begging bowl for the Buddha to refill each day for many souls? Who desires to truly know me in the fullness of my love for each and every one and begin to share in this love through a practical path of real, joyful service?
I ask each of you to write a letter to me and to ask me to show you the next step on your path of mercy. I will come and inspire upon you what mercy must mean in your life if you are to become true bodhisattvas for Gautama and me.
I love you and seal you with a kiss of compassion this day. Be compassion to each one in your care. Be the flame of mercy, and you will know me in the return current of love and the embrace of joy that I bring to you this hour.
