Kuan Yin known as the Mother of Mercy in the East, has been worshipped by Buddhists for thousands of years. She is the greatest of Bodhisattvas and embodies the totality of compassion for humanity. She removes obstacles, erases past offenses, dispenses mercy, healing and spiritual graces, while always meeting the true inner needs of the soul.

"Hearer of Sounds"

Her shortened Chinese name,  Kuan Yin, means “Hearer of Sounds.” Her full name, Kuan Shih Yin,  means “Hearer of the World’s Sounds.” According to Eastern tradition, when Kuan Yin was about to enter heaven, as she stood on the very threshold, she could hear the cries of humanity. She did not enter but returned to help all who suffer in the earth plane. The term “Hearer of Sounds" can also be translated as “perceiver” or “regarder” of the world’s sounds. She is known in much of Asia as a divine emanation that answers the prayers of those who faithfully call upon her name.

Kuan Yin removes obstacles, erases past offenses, dispenses mercy, healing and spiritual graces, while always meeting the true inner needs of the soul.

Bodhisattva of Compassion

One of her many titles is Bodhisattva of Compassion. Bodhisattva is a Sanskrit word—bodhi meaning "enlightenment"  and sattva translated as "reality" or "existence." A bodhisattva is an enlightened being who has vowed to forgo higher realms and full liberation in order to assist those still struggling in the physical world. A bodhisattva cultivates virtue and pursues his/her spiritual career while on a path of self-sacrifice for the welfare of others and gives compassionate, loving service to humanity and to all sentient life. A bodhisattva (P’u Sa in Chinese) can be a person still in embodiment or a celestial being like Kuan Yin. At this highest transcendent level, the title is mahasattva.

Kuan Yin Mercy Prayer

Kuan Yin is a cross-cultural, nondenominational figure revered by many spiritual and religious traditions around the world. She serves the aspirants of all spiritual heritages and paths. Those who espouse a concept of an impersonal, formless divinity see her as an expression of the essence of compassion, or as a symbol of it. Others who acknowledge a personal Godhead view her as a divine embodiment of this virtue. Some view her as both the impersonal and personal manifestations of divine compassion, with no contradiction. She nurtures the growth of this quality in us through our devotions and our interpersonal relationships with others.

On January 13, 2008 Kuan Yin began delivering a series called Missives of Mercy for those who would be bodhisattvas of love. In these releases of light, she desired to direct the currents of mercy into the deepest recesses of our consciousness. Teaching on Mercy

I AM your beloved Kuan Yin, and my teaching on mercy this day is for your soul—the part of you that has always been in resonance with God, the essence of you, which already knows mercy.

Mercy is the teardrop of the Divine Mother in consolation of her children in samsara. Mercy is the movement of the gentle breeze on a scorching day that provides relief and surcease from the hot sun. Mercy is the cup of cool water offered by you or another to someone who has been beset by the arid elements of life, which has been, from one perspective, harsh upon them. Mercy is the interaction between the hummingbird and the iris, between the honeybee and the sunflower, between every butterfly that alights within your garden and partakes of the nectar of something sweet and then offers it unto the sky within its flight.

Mercy is the gentility of consciousness that soothes the soul. It is the understanding of life when some would judge and be tempted to wreak that judgment upon others and self. Mercy is the synthesis of compassion, kindness and charity and the offering of the essence of the heart of Mother to all. Mercy gives and gives and gives in a constant stream of selflessness, sacrifice, wherein the virtues of the Universal are bestowed in a harmonious offering and blessing.

Mercy is a miracle of beingness in many moments stretched throughout eternity, as angels come and alight where you are and try to inspire you to be who you are in God. Mercy is God's answer to every prayer uttered by children and adults alike when that prayer is heartfelt and offered for another. Mercy is the blessing that comes unannounced, skipping here and there across the waters with the fairies to perform its alchemy in the night and in the morning, within the arising of the dew upon the grass. Mercy provides an oasis of assistance and comfort whenever it is extended through a heartfelt gesture. And it is an anointing—yes, a sacred anointing of Spirit—that raises you, each one, to a new awareness of presence, to a new blessedness of peace.

Mercy is the dance of your soul with Spirit when you are in love with life and, yes, with your twin or your soul mate or simply one whom you choose to be affectionate toward because the others are not available in the moment. Mercy is the kiss of the mother upon the child at bedtime and when that one grows up and goes off to school—kindergarten, middle school and, yes, even high school and college. For even though the adult child and the child-adult may think it strange that the mother would still kiss that one, she knows her own, and she bestows through that gesture her essence of support, protection, encouragement.

You are mercy; I am mercy. We are mercy, all, when we participate in the alchemy of the new era dawning through violet-joy love, expressions of kindness and appreciation and through the untold and unknown aspects of God that have yet to be quickened and awakened within us fully. Yet we know that our souls, opening to the Divine, will indeed receive these spiritual graces in time and understand the anointings that come and the blessings within them.

O how the devas of earth, air, fire, water participate with the Divine Mothers East and West in the alchemy of bringing mercy to mankind in so many ways through Mother Earth, Mother Nature, Mother Mother. You are Mother, I AM Mother, and we are mothering mercy upon and within this world this day and every day. We choose to be mercy because there is, from this perspective of the bodhisattva path, no other way to resolve the conflicts in this world than to demonstrate mercy, to be the example of mercy, to show mercy even when the Lords of Life would dictate something else—justice in its harsher elements. Yes, at times, justice is the greatest mercy, blessed ones, so that the soul may awaken from its sleep to its realization. And yet when that one has embraced the divine life, then mercy comes again in the more comforting aspects to raise the soul and to encourage that one to higher heights and brighter vistas.

If you would be mercy with me, then meditate upon your heart, one with God's. For when you enter the heart of God in consciousness, in spirit, I am there as your benefactor, your Mother to show you many more worlds of mercy than you can imagine in this moment.

Did you know, precious hearts, that there is a vast galaxy somewhere in the distant recesses of cosmic space wherein mercy is the norm, the standard, the ideal embodied fully by every spirit evolving within that system? I say that it is true. And if you can imagine this as real there, how about bringing it into this system and being one who encourages mercy to now be the standard for all evolving here? I AM the standard bearer of mercy, and yet that standard is something that few fully recognize when it comes with the authority of the Karmic Board to bestow its light, its understanding and grace.

You, as initiates, may model this flame-flower and flame-light within your hearts, within your vision centers, within your souls. You see, I give you a key this day: when you model mercy within the central chakra of your heart and within the third eye and the soul, there is an alchemy of the triune nature of mercy that blesses with the authority of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva incarnate within you. What you visualize, you become. So become mercy in order that you are real in your vision.

In collaboration now with the temple deva, Hermes, I spread my wings of mercy, with thousands and thousands of bodhisattvas here, to bless Mount Shasta and her people, this environs, Northern California and all the lightworkers, lightsharers and lightbearers with whom you all collaborate. We extend this grace to all within this movement far and wide and to all who, in their temples of mercy, also invoke that light and who, in their lives, model this virtue and God-essence.

May the light within this temple expand as worship and devotion manifests regularly. And through the alchemy of Spirit, all who come here will receive the healing light of mercy within their soul and the blessings of Spirit upon and within their being.

The consecration, the dedication is complete. The temple is here. We celebrate. We love. We are mercy. Thank you.
